Matina Paru



"Matina Paru " also known  as  Prem diwash or pranaya diwash is     celebrated in Newar community as a day of love. This is similar to Valentine's day which is celebrated all over world on February 14.

 In Nepal Bhasa (Nepal Language) "Matina" means love and "paru" means pratipadha. This day falls after the day of Yomari Punhi, which is the day of Poush Krishna Pratipadha.

During ancient time, being in relationship and going on date with partners were not normal like in today's time. Therefore , the tradition of ,roaming house to house for asking of yomari was made which is called "Ta : shi :tya"

The boys and kids use to go to roam around their neighborhood in asking of yomari by singing songs and dancing. In the very moment they use to  meet their loved ones and give flowers to each other . The flower here  symbolizes love .

February 14 is celebrated all over world as Valentine's Day and Nepalese are also influenced by it and have forgotten about this special day , Matina Paru.

The youngsters should not forget about this special day too .
